If this question was pitched years back, probably decades ago, responses by the majority would be a skeptical tone; because apparently, not many people could tell the expense of science in their day-to-day lives, not to mention their health as a whole. The world is gradually evolving to its peak in the face of science and technology, and with the way things are being paced in this niche, everyone would come to realize advancement in science isn’t just a mere pawn in our well-being but rather a queen in our chessboard.

So yes! Advancement in science improves the quality of health and well-being. Although there might be mischiefs and chaos these advances cause in our everyday lives; tons of them to be precise, but with the current world stats, it causes more good than harm when it comes to our safety.

Man and science

Basically, science is based on the jurisdiction of observation, research, hypothesis, tests or analysis, and finally results and conclusions. So for every breakthrough in the advancement of science, it should be known that proper scrutiny has been performed notwithstanding if it’s research or mere observation. There are various applications of advancement in science resulting in promoting the upkeep of man. Here are a few advances currently ongoing to improve our health and well-being

Artificial intelligence: Years back, disabled; with amputated arms and legs had no hope of ever walking or lifting things again due to the level of science dated decades of years from now. However, with the current rapid upsurge in science, prosthetics and artificial limbs have brought hope to the faces of many and lifted the souls of depressed athletes who are still trying to get into the game

In addition, getting and staying fit is more of rocket science to different people nowadays. But with the aid of AI applications being a guide to exercises and workouts, going shredded in a short space of time isn’t such a dilemma is it?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): Of course the new normal whenever we get a fractured bone or when trying to know the anatomy and physiology of our body system, all we demand is to get an MRI scan. This has elevated the burden of staying in the shadows of our own health whenever we are curious about lesions and tumors within.

Genetic mutation and human cloning: It’s no news that from current research, humans can be cloned and genetically mutated. Regeneration of the human heart from stem cells has also proven not to be fantasies any longer. It’s real! Perhaps, maybe everyone might get that second chance we’ve all craved for.

Water purification system and production of food in space: These two necessities have proven to be essential and basic needs to our well-being as humans. Currently, the world is running out of clean water and good food due to environmental hazards like water, air, and land pollution resulting from improper disposal of refuse across the seas, lands amidst others.

And the water purification system on earth is gradually not doing the trick any longer thereby not sustaining the majority of the population. However, a new system was discovered in space to purify water for astronauts by recycling wastewater to produce dirt-free water for consumption. But over time, due to the fast-rising need for clean water on earth, this new purification system was adopted primarily as a means of producing dirt-free water as an alternative to the water cycle system accustomed to.

This was first installed in Iraq in 2006 as a means to curb unclean water. The production of food in space is also being implemented here on earth as an advancement in science. Besides, vegetables like Salad and Mustard green leaves grown in space were known to elude rapid destruction unlike food produce taken from the earth.

Curing lethal diseases: Finding cures to cancer, heart disease, and the dreaded virus has been a huge barrier for centuries. These ailments have taken lots of lives due to the inability of providing a cure or vaccine. A vivid example is the Coronavirus (COVID-19) which furthered its strains to becoming SARS-COV2.

Apparently, if a cure was discovered, things might not have gone south. However, space scientists are also currently making headway in finding a cure to these ailments; with cancer being a case study. Studying endothelial cells (known to supply blood to the body) and protein clusters under the influence of little or no gravity have proven to aid in the treatment of cancer and in understanding its physiological properties.

Conclusion

It’s very hard to pinpoint every new discovery and advancement in science as a whole. It keeps increasing day after day. Moreover, advancement in science to our well-being as a whole isn’t a day’s job. Research, tests, and tons of experiments have to be done before conclusions are made.

Obviously, with the above mentioned, these advances are yielding terrific results to foster mankind’s well-being. Although with minimal setbacks and disadvantages, advancement in science might prove otherwise to a few, this progress isn’t something everyone can see now, that’s why it is an advancement, a constant and daily routine to make life better for everyone. And I hope we actually see that in other to partake in the moving trend to make the world a better place.
